The fairy tale...
Once upon a time, a girl knocked on a castle door. She was disheveled from walking in a storm but insisted that she was a princess. A suspicious queen had her bed prepared. She placed a small pea underneath several layers of blankets and pillows. A real princess, the queen rationalized, would be able to tell something hidden beneath. During breakfast the next morning, princess remarked that she did not sleep well because there was something very hard in her bed. With that comment, the queen knew the guest was a real princess and allowed her son, the prince, to ask for her hand in marriage.
And now, the game...
Preparation: Assemble the bed. Place the game board face up and put the princess on any of the squares. Mix up all the bed sets and place near the game board for easy access.
How to play - beginners, version ...
The youngest player starts by rolling the die. The princess is moved clockwise according to the number of dots shown on the dice. If she lands on a bed, the player picks up a piece of bedding and puts it on the bed. If a player lands on the washing machine, a piece of bedding is removed.
How to win - beginners' versions...
If the tower falls over before all the bed sets have been piled up, everyone loses. If the players succeed in stacking all the pieces into one pile without the tower falling over, everyone wins and princess invites everyone to her castle for a big party.
Sleepy Princess and the Pea comes with instructions for an advanced version of the game.
Sleepy Princess and the Pea comes with the following beautifully designed pieces:

I only did 3 stars for this game becasue: 1) The soft parts of the game are Made in China, not Germany 2)The bed falls apart if touched slightly and has to be put back together repeatidly 3)the game board doesn't lay flat (at least mine does not)

Not your average princess game...

I bought this for my 8 year old niece who LOVES anything princess. Frankly I get so sick of everything commercial princess so this was a nice way to get her what she likes but have it based on a great story. The game has 2 different ways to play one more difficult than the other, which she and her little sister (4 yr old) both enjoy. I like the fact the game can be over in a short amount of time, 2 - 3 min to 10 min. My only critique is that the bed frames are made of cardboard and may not be that sturdy. Overall, she loves it and still plays the game 4 months later. A good sign for a 8 yr old!

Fairytale fun

This game was wonderful for the Princess and the Pea fans in our home. The pillows and mattresses are bright and colorful. The variety of ways to play make the game a huge success with the wide range of kids in our home (ages 3-5). The cardboard bed frame is a little flimsy, but it hasn't broken in many months of play. My children also enjoy playing with the pillows and mattresses in their dollhouse.

Where's the Pea?

My daughter has enjoyed just playing with the pillows, mattresses, bed, princess, and yes, the ever elusive pea. I try really hard (and usually successfully) to keep up with every tiny part of her toys and games, but I have spent more time looking for this little round pea than I can recount. I am thankful I do not have a toddler in the house...I would be convinced they swallowed it. I am almost ashamed to admit the "pea" is now a round, dried ball of green play dough. Still a favorite!

My daughter received this as a gift. She has been able to play the basic version since she was 3. She is now 4 and play both versions. Games can be as short as 5 minutes or as long as 20. Very well made and cheerful
