Brown owls are nocturnal birds, sleeping during the day and hunting at night. They live in trees, abandoned burrows and buildings, and old farm machinery left in fields. They are meat-eaters, usually eating small rodents. They have special feathers that reduce the sound of flapping when it flies, have sharp talons to hold prey, hooked beak for tearing meat, and camouflage coloring to keep from being spotted during the day.
All Holztiger wooden animals, dinosaurs, and story characters are carved from maple, oak, birch, or beech wood to meet the demand of hard play. For extra safety, all sharp edges have been softened, and all figures are painted with non-toxic, water-based paint. To make the figure more resistant to perspiration and saliva, there is an additional non-toxic, satin-finish topcoat.
