very open ended
A viewer from BOULDER, CO USA
This is an entirely open-ended toy. The pieces are all the same, and it's up to you to make something from them. This is great for older kids, especially, as you can use them to make amazing sculptures (though it takes lots of time and patience). My little one simply lines them up, or uses them to make streets between other things he's built.

Just okay
A viewer from Portland, OR
I am an adult who loves blocks but personally, I don't find that Kapla blocks live up to the hype. They are an okay block, but nothing great. Kapla blocks are different to work with than ordinary blocks and take a bit of creative ingenuity and lots of patience to balance and design with. Initially, that is fun and interesting but it wears thin after a time. Personally, I can't help feeling a little frustrated whenever we play with them. You really have to have pretty nimble fingers, a very flat surface and not a bit of clumsiness. To me, the logistics of them get in the way of creative play. My children get frustrated with these, too...especially when their hard work acciddently goes tumbling down. On a positive note, they are a fine block to use in addition to other blocks, for counting and making visual graphs with and my children enjoy laying them out to make pathways, bridges and roads. They also use them in their imaginative play, filling baskets with them or using them as pieces in their pretend games.

Fine Simplicity Offering Endless Creativity
A viewer from My own little world
These wonderfully simple planks are an all-time favorite in our house. Our family enjoys playing all together building structures and designing endless creations. The planks are meticulously high quality, smooth to touch, and yet do not slip or slide when stacked. They are ingenious! Kapla blocks are well worth the little investment and would be an appreciated gift for any child.
