	Good for developing oral-motor skills 01/02/2008

My son is austistic and we are trying to teach him how to blow. We got this for him for Christmas because he is very motivated by music, and we're hoping that it will give him an incentive to work on blowing out. Right now he likes to hear us play it. I know we'll get to him blowing in it soon enough (he's got the idea that you need to blow into in order for it to make noise, that is a step in the right direction). The harmonica itself is well made, and very smooth to the touch. The finish is bright and attactive. This toy is useful in helping with oral-motor skills, even for children who do not have developmental delays.

My 2.5 year old had a cheap metal harmonica that he loved and played constantly. When it finally broke, we found this one. It is beautifully made, and seems to have a thoughtful, child-friendly design. Plus it really sounds good, which is not always the case with children's musical instruments.

Not only is it adorable with its bright colors and design, but it has a beautiful sound quality and tone. I don't have the slightest clue as how to make real music with a harmonica, but my 7 month old loves it when I just blow into it and make any sound. He gets a kick out of it. I'm sure it'll be even better once he can make those sounds himself.

This is a lovely child's harmonica. And the best part is that it sounds so nice. I am so tired of junky children's musical instruments. Also, my son sucked air in at first and this harmonica still makes a sound (and a pleasant one at that!) so he feels good about playing it! I wish it came with a little songbook or something though, even if it was just pretend.
