Finally I found the perfect toy for my toddler boy: Coming from a family of engineers this DIY Nuts & Bolts Construction Set offers my son multiple opportunities to discover his talents. It has all the tools to satisfy his urge to take things apart, repair, build, construct, create and invent.

Not only at home is this adventurous boy into nuts and bolts. Even at the playground he is interested how things go together and inspects the slide and the swing from all angles, especially from underneath. His favorite tool used to be the hammer but lately he became fascinated with any kind of screws. Now he can build his own projects. We already built the motorcycle, the airplane and a tractor. Tomorrow we will try the submarine.

On the downside we managed to damage the screw driver on the first day of its use. The wooden tip chipped along the wood fiber and rendered the tool less functional. I wish the tools would be made out of a more durable hardwood, but these woods are expensive because their trees are slow growing.

The black paint on the black wheels chipped away at the edges and exposed the wood. I do not trust the paint made in China to be free of harmful chemicals so I keep the toy away from my 6 months old baby. I do not want her to chew on any of painted wood pieces. It’s fine for my toddler to play with this set and he enjoys this great do-it-yourself toy.
