KATHE KRUSE
Company History
Established in 1905, Kathe Kruse is one of the oldest, most venerated toy companies in
existence today. Named after its founder, Kathe Kruse was begun by a mother of five in Germany, who wished to create
toys for her own children that were warm and inviting. The first toy made by Kathe Kruse was a simple towel doll, filled
with sand and topped with a potato to serve as a head. Though Kathe Kruse has moved beyond sand and potatoes, the same
spirit of simple design and made-with-love craftsmanship continues to this day.
An Expanding Collection
While still specializing in simple dolls for infants and young children, Kathe Kruse
has branched out over the years to also include room décor, baby toys, play clothing, and of course, their highly coveted
line of Waldorf and Classic dolls, intended mainly for older collectors. The majority of Kathe Kruse dolls, are still, to
this day, made by hand from start to finish.
Toy Safety
Fabrics used are produced to comply with the European cloth standard Oko Tex 100, which ensures
that the material is free from any chemicals or dyes that may irritate skin. All toys are tested by independent
institutions and comply with both European and American safety standards.
